BlackBerry OS 10.3.2 update bolsters productivity and anti-theft features
BlackBerry has announced the start of a global rollout of BlackBerry OS 10.3.2, delivering updates to the user interface, camera and anti-theft features. First unveiled in June, BlackBerry OS 10.3.2 has so far been available only to BlackBerry users in the US, but the firm is now rolling it out worldwide, although users will have to check with their carrier to find out when they can download it. The BlackBerry OS 10.3.2 update comes with security and productivity enhancements, in addition to the usual bug fixes. BlackBerry Protect, the feature that allows users to secure and track a lost or stolen device via the web, now gains an anti-theft protection capability that prevents anyone else using the handset. The new Flag as Stolen option will erase the memory and disable the device, which cannot then be wiped and reactivated. BlackBerry Blend has also been given an update. The feature lets users access BlackBerry email, calendar, documents and other content from a PC or tablet, and now has a refreshed user interface based on customer feedback, spell check capabilities and performance improvements in BlackBerry Blend 1.2. The BlackBerry camera app now has enhancements in image capturing, plus improved face detection and reduced blur caused by motion, all designed to make taking pictures in any situation as easy as point-and-shoot, BlackBerry said. Meanwhile, BlackBerry Calendar now allows greater customisation in Meeting Mode, which suppresses notifications for the duration of a meeting. This can now be customised by specifying the events controlled by Meeting Mode. The month view in BlackBerry Calendar also shows shrinking or growing date numbers depending on the fullness of the schedule, showing at a glance just how busy a particular work day is. The move comes just a week after news that BlackBerry is to acquire Good Technology in a deal worth $425m to bolster BlackBerry's enterprise mobility portfolio.
